Writing CV

In 2008, Mel graduated with a first in Media Production (BA Hons) from Northumbria University in Newcastle.

In 2011, she then graduated with a Masters degree in Writing for the Stage & Broadcast Media from the Royal Central
School of Speech & Drama in London.

She has always wished that she could clone herself: one would live in the Northeast, and the other would live in London. But for now, there's always the megabus!

2008: Best Feature Screenplay (Graduate) Northumbria University (presented by ITV representative).
2009: Low (short film) Northern Film & Media Stingers Short Film Scheme: produced by Shudder Films and directed by Michelle Fox.
2010/11: Shortlisted for BBC Writer’s Academy
2011: Headline production, unpaid commission: Life Meaning Us, a one act play running for seven nights at Theatro Technis, Camden (DYSPLA Festival)
2013: Selected for production as part of a series of shorts by Grey & Green Theatre Company: A Little While Longer, produced at the Hen & Chickens
2013: NFM mentoring selection with Paul Fraser (Screenplay, Stand Up)
2014: Camden Fringe, Tristan bates Theatre, 7 nights: Sleeping Truths Lie, directed by Rachel Creeger
2015: Selected for script-in-hand scratch night amongst a series of shorts: Hitler, Grapes & Toesocks, a short play, staged at Alphabetti Theatre
2017: Blue's For Boys - unpaid commission: Alphabetti Soup event with Alphabetti Theatre, Newcastle – One act play.
2020: Shortlisted for the following schemes: Act Your Age New Writing Festival, Yarns from Home Comp (Blowin' a Hooley Theatre), Genera Productions Short Film Funding, Theatre AdHoc - One Act Play Competition, DYSPA writer's residency.
2021: Children's book publication for the RSPCA (Tot & the 5 Welfare Wisps: A story about animal welfare)
2022: Shortlisted (top 12) for Haddaway & Write by Blowin a Hooley Theatre, and for DYSPLA's 2022 writers residency
2023: Commission wins: Aaand Sleep and The Boy With The Pink Scarf. Short response plays for Alphabetti Theatre's Writing Response Programme.
2023/4: Residency offer from Alphabetti Theatre. (In progress)
